The Pakistani government has reportedly placed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and at least 80 other PTI leaders on a no-fly list. The list also includes former minister Fawad Chaudhry, who has since quit the party.
The move comes after Khan was arrested on May 9 on corruption charges. He is also facing charges related to violence that broke out after his arrest.
The government has not yet confirmed the development, but it is reportedly based on a request from the police department, National Accountability Bureau, and the anti-corruption department.
The no-fly list is maintained by the Ministry of Interior and is used to prevent people from leaving the country for a variety of reasons, including corruption cases. However, it has been criticized in the past for being used to target political opponents.
When Khan was prime minister, he placed several high-profile figures, including current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on the no-fly list.
The latest move is likely to further increase tensions between Khan's PTI party and the current government.
