Dubai Scraps Grace Period for Tourist Visas

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has scrapped the 10-day grace period for tourist visas in Dubai. This means that visitors who overstay their visa will now be fined AED 50 (US$13.60) per day.

The change was made by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). The ICP said that the move was to "ensure compliance with the UAE's immigration laws and regulations."

The grace period was previously used by tourists to extend their stay in Dubai without having to apply for a new visa. However, the ICP said that this was being abused by some people who were overstaying their visas for long periods of time.

The new rules come into effect immediately. Visitors who are currently in Dubai with a tourist visa should make sure that they leave the country before their visa expires. If they overstay, they will be liable for the fine.

There are a number of ways to avoid overstaying your visa. You can:

  • Apply for a visa extension before your current visa expires.
  • Leave Dubai before your visa expires.
  • Contact the ICP if you have any questions about the new rules.

The ICP has said that it will be working with travel agents and airlines to ensure that tourists are aware of the new rules.
